OK, there's bad news, good news and more bad news ... The bad news is that there don't seem to be any OEM firmwares out for the TS-L633R at all ... worse still, since your drive is an HP OEM the chance of getting a firmware update from HP any time soon is rather slim to none (reason being that HP rarely provide any firmware updates for notebook drives)... The good news is that the TS-L633R is an OEM version of the SN-S083R retail drive, and Samsung has released two firmwares for this drive, the latest one being SB01 dated 2010-08-30, so if you're willing to void your warranty for the drive (assuming your laptop is still under warranty) you can crossflash your drive to the real thing, and if you ask ala42 nicely to add support for this firmware in MCSE make your drive RPC1 in the process You won't be able to go back to the TS-L633R firmware though, since there is none available and there's no way to dump the existing firmware from Samsung drives. If you want to go ahead with the crossflash, once ala42 adds support for this drive in MCSE, this is what you need to do: 1. Go to Samsung and download the SN-S083R SB01 firmware: http://www.samsungodd.com/korLib/popup/ ... R_SB01.exe2. Download the Samsung stand alone flasher: http://www.samsungodd.com/KorLib/File/tsdnwin.exe3. Download the latest version of ala42's MCSE: http://ala42.cdfreaks.com/MCSE/ 4. Extract the SN-S083R_SB01.bin firmware file from the Samsung flasher you downloaded by using WinRar/WinZip 5. Load the SN-S083R_SB01.bin file in MCSE, click the RPC1 box and save it as SN-S083R_SB01_speedpatched.bin 6. Start the tsdnwin.exe flasher from a command line with the -nocheck parameter: tsdnwin -nocheck 7. Once the flasher opens, load the speedpached firmware in it and then flash your drive. 8. Reboot when asked and enjoy your new RPC1 drive! As I said, at the moment you won't be able to advance any further than step 4, because MCSE doesn't support this drive, hence the 'more bad news' part...

Thanks for the advice.
Once I have download the firmware, do I then have to create a new post asking ala42 if he can assist or is this post enough?
Thanks again. Andrew

Thanks again. Andrew no this thread is enough, you can modify your title to ask for the SN-S083R

Hi ddayb,
Sounds like you had success with this. MCSE still doesnt seem to support the SN-S083R, did you patch it with something similar that worked or did you find pathced firmware elsewhere?
Thanks, S

Thanks, S The SN-S083 is supported, but what here counts is the actual OEM firmware on the drive!!! So please make a proper request instead posting dabba jabba.

Hi _chef_,
Apologies for not doing a fresh firmware request it was just that I have the exact same HP OEM firmware that ddayb had. i.e HP TS-L633R. I have downloaded the latest version of MCSE and it doesnt recognise the SN-S083R_SB01.bin to allow the RPC1 to be patched?
Many Thanks for your help.
Regards, S

I can start the flashing to flast from TS-L633R with the nocheck option, but what will result if I can't get MCSE to patch the firmware first since MCSE does not seem to recognize the SB01 firmware above? Should I just flash SB01 over my 0300 firmware?

Should I just flash SB01 over my 0300 firmware? Since MCSE does not support patching the SB01 firmware, then your drive will still be RPC2 (region locked) after the crossflash. In such cases the only benefit of crossflashing will be the fact that the SB01 firmware is likely to be newer than the OEM firmware you currently have (how much newer is impossible to say I'm afraid since we don't know how old the 0300 firmware is) which might mean better media support... If you're happy with your drive as it is, stick with the 0300 firmware until such time that MCSE will support patching the SN-S083R firmware ...

Thanks. Hopefully ala42 will enable support for the SB01 firmware for SN-S083R

I am not very happy with the 0300 firmware as there are many cases where a CDR containing data is recognized as a "blank disk" by the drive although DVD drives on other notebooks (based on Hitachi/Liteon) are able to read it.

Using Imation, Ricoh and Verbatim media. As for the one which the old firmware from HP (0200) is recognized is a blank disc when it is full was a Imation 52X CDR. I have crossflashed to SN-S083R and it is recognizing the discs properly now. I am still unable to convert to RPC-1 firmware though as there is none available and MCSE does not recognize it.

The only missing piece is to get RPC1 support for the SN-S083R . Not sure how hard it is to be able to do so as MCSE does not support it.
